Open house showcases what CCTI has to offer

The Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe held its annual open house Wednesday night, with prospective students and their families touring the facilities.

“The goal of the open house is to give current ninth graders and younger a chance to come in with their families and tour the school, and get to know what we have to offer,” said CCTI Principal Michelle Allen.

The departments had students’ projects on display, offering an example of what the departments teach. For example, the Graphics Department students chose a business and product that they could create graphic products such as boxes, bags, shirts, and other packaging and advertising items.

“The students have to research the product and the business, research the competition, set out and start designing the products,” explained Maritza Reinbold, head of the Graphics Department. “Everyone offers their critiques; what they could do, how they should do it, how to make it better, then they went ahead and did it.”

The Culinary Arts Department had food for sale that the students prepared. The Marketing Department had the school store open, and displays were set up from area businesses that work with the school. The Graphic Arts Department had their students’ projects on display, and were selling some of the art work.
