A fire marshal has ruled that the cause of a house fire in Nesquehoning Wednesday morning was electrical in nature, Nesquehoning Hose Company fire Chief John McArdle announced.
Fire crews were called to the area of 331/333 W. Catawissa St. just after 7 a.m. after smoke was observed coming from the second floor of the structure.
According to the Carbon County Property records, the building is owned by Michael and Rachel Strucko and is a three-apartment home.
A resident living in the 331 apartment needed assistance getting out, Chief Michael Weaver said following the fire.
One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
The residents of the apartment on 333 W. Catawissa were not home at the time, Weaver said.
According to a GoFundMe account that has been set up, the residents living in the affected apartment are Nick and Vicky McGeehan.
The GoFundMe was set up by Nick’s mother, Marta McLaughlin, who also lost her home on Laurel Street in the borough earlier this year to a fire.
She said that the couple lost their cat, Spooks in the fire, and have rented the property since 2012.
As of Thursday morning, $300 has been raised for the couple.
