Lehighton Borough Police Log
Lehighton Borough Police Department reported on the following incidents:
• At 11:25 p.m. Sept. 28, police conducted a DUI checkpoint at the Domino’s, in the 100 block of Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. Police stopped a white, 2013 Toyota, Camry. During the encounter, a strong odor of marijuana could be smelled coming from inside the vehicle and the driver, a 25-year-old man, showed signs of impairment. Field sobriety tests were conducted and the man, who police did not name, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. The driver also gave consent to search the vehicle and police found plastic bags that contained 16.6 grams of suspected marijuana.
• At 12:15 a.m. Sept. 23, police were dispatched to the 100 block of South Sixth Street, where police made contact with a 36-year-old woman from Lehighton. Due to welfare concern for the child, police made contact with the child and the woman surrendered the drugs and paraphernalia that was in the residence. Charges are to be filed.
• At 2:10 a.m. Sept. 25, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a suspended registration. Police conducted field sobriety testing on the driver, Mark Simpson, 34, of Philadelphia. Impairment was detected. Charges were filed.
• At 11:15 a.m. Sept. 11, police saw a white Ford Focus pulling out of the Exxon gas station onto Route 443 failing to use their turn signal. A traffic stop was conducted in the parking lot of J & K Cigarette Outlet. A 40-year-old man from Lehighton was suspected of driving under the influence. Throughout the roadside field sobriety testing it was determined that he was incapable of safe driving. The man consented for a search of the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia and controlled substances were found. The man was taken into custody and transported to Lehigh Valley Carbon Campus for a blood draw. Charges are pending blood results.
• At 4:15 a.m. Sept. 11, police observed a black Chevrolet Sonic pulling out of the Exxon parking lot on Route 443. Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle due to inspection violations. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Northampton, notified police that he did not possess a valid driver’s license. Throughout investigation it was determined that he had an active warrant out of Northampton County. He was taken into custody and asked for consent to search the vehicle due to seeing drug paraphernalia in the car.
Throughout investigation, it was determined that the passenger, a 32-year-old man from Northampton, was also in possession of drug paraphernalia and was also taken into custody. The 23-year-old was transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility on the active arrest warrant. Charges are pending for both men.
• At 12:20 a.m. Sept. 29, Lehighton Borough Police and the DUI task force set up a DUI checkpoint in the area of the Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard. A suspected DUI driver, a 36-year-old woman from Lehighton, was pulled from the line and put through field testing. The woman was suspected to be DUI. She was transported to St. Luke’s for a blood draw. Charges are pending blood results.
