Lansford has another house in dire straits

Lansford Borough has another structure in danger of collapse.

This one is at 205-207 W. Kline Ave., which is a double home with visible cracks on the exterior and large holes in the roof.

The borough received a complaint on the structure, and ARRO Consulting, an engineering consulting firm, wants to issue the owner a demolition order, borough secretary Wendy Butrie told council members during committee meetings Tuesday.

Council members said they’d like to see the photographs of the property, and what the issues are.

Council President Bruce Markovich said while they can’t make a decision at a committee meeting, he believed the firm could go ahead and issue the demolition order and see what the property owner wants to do.

If the owner refuses, ARRO is asking the borough to step in and raze the structure, and then place a lien on the property, Butrie said.

Markovich said he doesn’t want to have to use taxpayer dollars to tear down a building, and the borough may need to take legal action against the owner for the money to raze the structure.

The borough faced a similar issue earlier this year with a property at 151-151½ W. Ridge St. The borough planned to use Community Development Block Grant funds to raze half of the structure, and sought a judgment against an owner for the remainder.
