Fire trucks filled the back parking lot of the Panther Valley Elementary School in Nesquehoning Friday morning, but there was no emergency.
The trucks, engines and rescues were on display for the students for Fire Prevention Week, which begins Sunday.
Nesquehoning Fire Chief John McArdle spoke to the students in a series of assemblies, sharing lessons about firefighting and what they should and shouldn’t do in an emergency.
Students helped demonstrate some lessons, such as stop, drop, cover and roll, in case someone is on fire, and McArdle took questions about fire safety and prevention from children.
Various firefighting tools were also on display inside the gym, and Coaldale firefighter Damien Flexer donned full firefighting gear, which McArdle explained to the students.
After the assembly, the students got to go outside to see firefighting apparatus from throughout the Panther Valley, including Nesquehoning, Coaldale, Lansford and Summit Hill.
Firefighters were on hand outside to answer any questions the students had as they got a close up look at the trucks.
