Schuylkill finalizes buying Pottsville storage building

Schuylkill County’s purchase of a Pottsville storage building has been finalized.

On Wednesday, commissioners approved the transfer of $381,200 from the county’s general fund to pay for the $375,000 building plus closing costs.

The county decided to buy the building, at 306 Prospect St., because its current leased storage building at 224 Bull’s Head Road, Norwegian Township, was filling up with so many papers.

County engineer Lisa Mahall said earlier the county had been leasing the building for $3,300 a month since 2014.

In other matters Wednesday, commissioners approved the purchase of a jacketed tilting kettle from singer equipment for $40,837 plus $2,830 for installation for the prison.

Warden David Wapinsky said the equipment, purchased through the state’s COSTARS purchasing program, is needed for meal preparation.

The commissioners also approved Emergency Management Agency Interim Coordinator John Blickley’s request for a grant agreement for a 2023 Emergency Management Performance Grant of $72,508.

The grant covers salaries and benefits for approved positions in the county’s Emergency Management Agency.
