Summit Hill man involved in Rt. 22 crash

State police in Bethlehem have released more details in the fatal crash on Route 22 Thursday morning.

This crash remains under investigation.

John Michael Woodburn, a 22-year-old man from Bethlehem, died in the crash.

Two others were injured in the crash at 10:41 a.m. Thursday on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township.

Police said it happened on Route 22 eastbound at the Route 33 interchange and involved two pickup trucks and a passenger vehicle. Police have not released the identities of the drivers.

Police said a 2018 red Chevrolet Silverado driven by 58-year-old Summit Hill man was traveling southbound on Route 33 northbound and exited the ramp from Route 22 eastbound to Route 33 northbound, traveling in the wrong direction.

Other vehicles were a 2002 black Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 76-year-old man from Wind Gap and a 1997 Honda Civic, driven by Woodburn. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Northampton County Coroner’s office.

Drivers of both the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and 2002 Chevrolet Silverado were transported to Saint Luke’s Anderson for their injuries.

Traffic on Route 22 eastbound was being detoured on Route 33 southbound and traffic was unable to exit from Route 33 southbound to Route 22 eastbound. The road reopened at 4:15 p.m.

Assisting at the scene were Troop M Forensic Services, the Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Specialist Unit, the Northampton County Coroner, Bethlehem Township Fire Department, Nancy Run Fire Department and Fast Lane Towing.

Police are asking anyone who may have observed the Silverado traveling prior to the crash, or anyone who has video of the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction, to contact them at 610-861-2026 and reference incident No. PA2023-1306267.
