Schuylkill Historical Society events
• The Schuylkill County Historical Society Executive Director Diana Prosymchak will present the history of the Pottsville Maroons football team at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11, at 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

• The society will hold its Haunted History tours on each of three consecutive Saturdays - Oct. 14, 21 and 28.
The Baber Cemetery tour will begin at 5:45 p.m. at 14th and Market streets, Pottsville. The downtown Pottsville tour will begin at 8 p.m. at the society, 305 N. Centre St. For fee information and reservations, which are required, contact the society.
• The society will present a program by Reading Deputy Fire Chief Michael Glore on the history of Hahn Motors, which supplied local fire companies with trucks during much of the 20th century, at 7 p.m. Oct. 18, at the Majestic Theater, 209 N. Centre St., Pottsville. He will also discuss firefighting apparatus.

• Former Shenandoah Herald and Danville News writer John H. Paul III will discuss and sign copies of “Instigations of the Devil,” his book about two alleged lovers in Danville who were hanged in 1858 for their spouses’ deaths, at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 25, at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.
Paul, who says his research shows the two were innocent of both adultery and murder, is petitioning the state to pardon them.

• The Local Reads book club will discuss “Appalachian: Schaumboch’s Tavern” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26, at Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville. The book by James Wosochlo Jr. is based on the true story of a man believed to be the first American serial killer.
