October 6, 1979 - Jim Thorpe jumps out to an early start against Freeland before hanging on for a 29-21 victory. Don Reis throws a pair of first-quarter touchdowns and the Olympians, coached by Bruce Krasley, race to a 21-7 advantage. Reis opens the scoring with a 19-yard TD pass to Jeff Lesisko and later finds Bruce Hurley for a 39-yard touchdown strike. The winners also receive an early score from Marv Hurley on a 7-yard run. Thorpe’s only second-half score proves to be the difference as Dave Rehrig, who finishes the game with 91 yards rushing, reaches the end zone on an 8-yard sprint.
