Lehighton shows off L & P department

Lehighton’s Light & Power Department observed Public Power Week with an open house Wednesday at the borough’s Light & Power Department.

Lonny Armbruster, superintendent of the borough’s Light and Power Department, said, “It’s about letting our customers see what we provide. It was a good turnout.”

Barry Fisher, assistant superintendent of the borough’s L & P Department, said he believes small town communities receive better service from having its own public power system.

“We’re able to provide reliable, safe power,” Fisher said. “They are interested in seeing our equipment and garage; everything’s in very good condition.”

Lifelong resident John Kostak said he was extremely impressed with what he observed.

“I’ve lived here for 81 years, and I never realized what all was here,” Kostak said. “It’s fantastic.”

Refreshments were served.

The borough is one of more than 2,000 public power systems across the country.

Established by the American Public Power Association and its members in 1986, Public Power Week celebrates the importance of public power.

Borough residents who have any questions regarding their local electric utility can contact the billing office at 610-377-4004.
