Minnesota man charged after road rage incident on turnpike

Ruad Ali Hussein, 34, of St. Paul, Minnesota, has been charged by state police at the Pocono barracks with criminal mischief, propulsion of objects into the roadway, disorderly conduct, driving violations and littering as a result of what police called a “road rage” incident at 1:25 p.m. Sept. 27 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Police said they were summoned to the area of mile marker 80 in Penn Forest Township to investigate the incident.

They said Hussein, driving a rig for Pro Globe Logistics, and another tractor trailer owned by Venezia Transportation Services, Nazareth, were northbound on the turnpike in an area where traffic was merging into a single-lane pattern near the Lehigh Tunnel.

Police said the two drivers disagreed over which vehicle had the right of way as they were merging into the right lane of traffic.

They said approximately 10 miles north of the initial encounter, an object was thrown from a vehicle and struck the front windshield of the Venezia truck.

In the investigation, police said, Hussein denied throwing any objects at the victim. They said, however, he was the only occupant of the vehicle. Police said video footage obtained from the Venezia rig showed as it was approaching the Pro Globe truck, Hussein traveled into the right lane in an attempt to cut off the Venezia truck.

Police said the footage showed as the vehicles were parallel to each other, a metal, 25-ounce water bottle, three-quarters full of water, propelled out of the passenger side window and struck the windshield of the Venezia truck, cracking it.
