Police investigate Northampton shooting death

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team is conducting a death investigation that occurred in Northampton Borough.

Police said at about 11:34 a.m. Saturday, the officers from the borough’s police department were dispatched to the 300 block of East Ninth Street for a report of gunshots in a residence. Police said a 53-year-old man was found deceased and a 51-year-old woman was injured, both from a gunshot wound.

The woman was transported by personnel from the Northampton Regional EMS Unit to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.

Police said the man was pronounced dead at 12:52 p.m. by a representative of the Northampton County Coroner’s Office.

Police said there is no threat to the public in reference to the investigation.

The Major Case Team officers are being assisted by representatives of the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Specialist Unit, Northampton County Coroner’s Office, Northampton Regional EMS, Northampton Police Department, North Catasauqua Police Department and Coplay Department.
