Monroe County incidents
State police at Stroudsburg responded to the following incidents:
• Police responded to a report of a juvenile with a firearm at 7:49 p.m. Aug. 25 at a property on Strawberry Hill Road, Hamilton Township. Police determined the firearm in question was a CO2-powered pellet gun. No charges were filed.
• Police are investigating the theft of eight fishing poles from a barn in Hamilton Township. A 62-year-old woman from Ridge Road reported the items stolen.
The poles are worth $500.
• Police were called to investigate a theft by deception case in which a 76-year-old Stroudsburg man is the victim.
It happened between 9 a.m. Sept. 9 and 2 p.m. Sept. 11 at a property on Polk Valley Road in Hamilton Township.
Police said someone hacked into the victim’s computer and placed malware onto it and then placed an advertisement for anti-virus software with a phone number on the computer. Police said the victim called the phone number and verbally gave his credit card information to pay for the anti-virus software.
The victim paid $500, which was later refunded. Upon refunding the victim, the unknown person placed $50,000 in the victim’s checking account, instead of the original $500. Police said the victim contacted his bank and had all assets in the account frozen while police complete their investigation.
• Sharaz Beharry, 45, of Saylorsburg, was cited for disorderly conduct after police were called Sept. 6 to a property at Spring Street and Cherry Valley Road, Hamilton Township.
Police said they issued the citation after they were called there for a report of someone blocking a public roadway.
• Police are investigating a theft by deception case in which the victim had $5,000 charged to his bank account via a credit card scam.
Police said they were called at 12:15 a.m. Sept. 9 to a property on Sandhill Terrace, Hamilton Township, where the victim told them he was lured into providing his credit card information over the telephone to someone who identified him/herself as a Bank of America employee. The victim said he was advised he needed to provide the credit card information to dispute a previous charge on the account. After providing the information the victim noticed the pending $5,000 charge to his account.
• Police said someone broke into the Pocono Auto Sash, Paradise Valley Road, Paradise Township, Cresco, damaging the equipment and stealing cash. It happened between 11 p.m. Aug. 2 and 1 a.m. Aug. 3.
Police said someone pried open the automatic car wash payment machine from the rear and appeared to have cut wires on the inside of the machine to gain access to an unknown amount of cash. The person also damaged two surveillance cameras.
The Hikvision cameras are valued at $1,000 and the innovative control systems wash valet terminal that was damaged is estimated at $2,500.
