Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 28
Jim Thorpe, Marian, Panther Valley and Pleasant Valley all posted wins in volleyball action Thursday.
VOLLEYBALL
Jim Thorpe-Lourdes
Jim Thorpe disposed of Lourdes in three sets, 25-8, 25-4, 25-13 in Schuylkill League action.
JaeLynn Browdy led the Olympians (10-1) with 10 kills, two digs, four service points, and one ace, and Brooke Mitzen added eight kills, six service points, four digs, and two aces.
Brianna Snisky recorded seven kills, two blocks, eight service points, and five aces, and Kelsey Patton had seven kills and three blocks. Maggy Hallihan added eight aces, 28 assists and 24 service points for the winners.
Schuylkill Haven-Marian
Marian downed Schuylkill Haven, 25-8, 25-16, 25-9 in Schuylk.
Abby Kluck had 16 digs, Julia Meiss had 17 assists, and Meagan Reaman had 12 digs for the Fillies, who raised their record to 10-4.
Marian won the JV game, 2-0.
ES South-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley rolled past East Stroudsburg South for a 25-13, 25-9, 25-11 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.
Brianna Bruckman (18 assists, six digs, four aces), Lexi Womack (eight kills, three digs) and Rylee Ruggiero (eight kills, two blocks, one ace, one dig) all made their presence felt up front for the Bears, who remain unbeaten at 13-0 overall.
Alexis Wilkes (four assists, four digs, three aces, one kill), Isa Hall (two kills, two blocks) and Hannah Akob (four kills, one ace, one assist, one dig) helped Pleasant Valley continue its remarkable run.
Mahanoy-Panther Valley
Panther Valley kept up its winning ways with a straight set 25-16, 25-16, 25-15 Schuylkill League win over Mahanoy Area.
Riley McArdle paced the Panthers (12-0 overall; 9-0 SL) with 13 kills, seven digs, three assists and three aces.
Natalie Vermillion (eight kills, eight digs) and Morgan Orsulak (11 assists, five kills, four digs, three aces) also contributed toward the winning effort.
Tamaqua-Pine Grove
Pine Grove outlasted Tamaqua 3-1 in a Schuylkill League match.
The Blue Raiders (4-12) were paced by Maddie Schock, who had four aces, three digs, 15 assists, and two kills, while Leah Black added five digs and four kills.
Gabby Blasko contributed two aces, seven digs and four kills, and Lacey Beers had 15 digs.
Shenandoah-Weatherly
Shenandoah Valley swept Weatherly, 25-15, 15-16, 26-24 in Schuylkill League play.
Rachel Rosenlund had six digs, and Kelly Reiner had five digs for the Wreckers (1-13).
Weatherly won the JV game, 2-1.
BOYS SOCCER
Wilson-Northwestern
Matt Johnson’s five goals sparked Northwestern’s 5-1 Colonial League win over Wilson.
Nicholas Krum added the other score for the Tigers, who remained perfect on the season to move to 14-0 overall and 11-0 in the league.
Brandon Krapf grabbed two saves for the shutout.
Lehighton-Sch. Haven
Lehighton and Schuylkill Haven played through regulation and a pair of overtime periods to a 0-0 tie.
Both teams had plenty of chances to score, but Indian keeper Bryce Miller and Hurricanes’ keeper Gavin Wade came up big to keep the game scoreless.
Wade finished with 12 saves, while Miller grabbed 10 saves, which included stopping a penalty kick in the second half.
Lehighton moves to 8-5-1 overall, while Schuylkill Haven moves to 5-6-2 on the season.
GIRLS SOCCER
Northwestern-Wilson
Northwestern spread the wealth en route to an 11-0 Colonial League win over Wilson.
Nine different players scored, as the Tigers (13-1 overall) remained unbeaten in league play at 10-0. Cammy Fitch and Jayden Gillette both scored two goals in the win.
Kherington Yezik finished with three assists, while both Brook Balliet and Katie Brensinger recorded a goal and an assist.
Sophia Schaffer, Amelia Glassberg, Shelby Shupp, Kiersten Klein and Hannah Newcomer all added goals.
Juliet Benvin contributed assists, while Abby Pomajevich, Bella Smith, Lexi Kercher and Paige Bissell also had an assist.
Notre Dame GP-Palmerton
Palmerton punched its ticket for the district playoffs with a commanding 7-1 win over Notre Dame of Green Pond in Colonial League play.
Ella Baumgardt tallied three goals, and Nataly Walters recorded a pair. Hadlee Lake and Aubrey Frable each scored a goal.
Palmerton moved to 10-4 overall, while Notre Dame fell to 3-7.
