EUMC busy day
On Monday three different groups will be using the facilities at Effort UMC: the Seekers will meet at 10 a.m. in Friendship Hall; at 12:30 p.m., Grief Share will meet there; and from 6 to 7 p.m. Girl Scouts will meet in the kitchen.
Shawl ministry
Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry meets from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, with time for lunch in between.
Orders due
Salem St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is having a ham takeout dinner Oct. 14. Dinner includes ham, filling with gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or pineapple upside-down cake.
Orders must be placed by calling 570-688-5381 no later than Sunday. Pickup dinners between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at the church on Oct. 14.
Orders are also being taken for celery seed dressing.
Pastie sale set
The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary will be having a pastie sale on Oct. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The firehouse is located on Old 115 in Saylorsburg across from The Old Saylors Inn.
Orders are asked to be placed by Oct. 6 by calling Lucy at 570-629-2871.
Dual events
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, is holding a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 6 and 7.
Items for sale include clothing, household goods, toys, books and much more.
There will be a bake sale and lunch available to purchase.
Flea market set
Effort UMC’s The Women’s Group has scheduled a flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in its pavilion on Oct. 7.
Lunch and bake sale items will be available.
Anyone interested in renting a space/table, should contact Joyce Aylsworth at 570-643-3334 as soon as possible.
Pet blessing
Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will hold a pet blessing at 1 p.m. Oct. 8.
Attendees are asked to meet in front of the parish hall. It will be held inside if it rains.
QV Harvest Fest
The 49th annual Harvest Festival will be held at Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s Living Historical Farm, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 7 and Oct. 8.
The theme for this year is: A Country Fair.
It will include exhibits, events, foods and beverages-all relevant to country fairs of old.
There will also be skill demonstrations, like spinning and weaving, apple butter making, candle dipping, contests, etc.
In addition, the one-room schoolhouse will host an interactive program, the Children’s Heritage area will have various activities and crafts, and the Everlastings area and God’s Half Acre will sell handmade items like jams. jellies, pickles and farm-fresh produce.
And the Gift Shop and the Trading Post will feature handmade items.

Sportsmen’s Day
Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding a Sportsmen’s Day Oct. 8, at 122 Gun Club Lane Saylorsburg PA 18353. The public is welcome.
Doors open at 11 a.m.
Ticket will have 33 prizes, plus 2 door prizes, and include refreshments from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Raffles will be ongoing throughout the day

Community event
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 150 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, right by the library) is hosting a community event, Day of the Dog, on Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Staff say adoptable dogs will be there for anyone who is interested in adopting and the snack shack will be open for food & drinks.
Hispanic Heritage
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a Celebration of Hispanic Heritage on Oct. 15, beginning with a Spanish Mass at 1 p.m.
At 2:15 p.m. typical dances by countries, typical foods and many more surprises are promised.
They will be inside the Parish Hall.

Fall fun day
Effort UMC is in the planning stage for a scheduled event from 1 to 3 p.m., on Oct. 21.
Trunk or Treat
Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company will hold Trunk or Treat at the Polk Township firehouse from 6 to 8 p.m., Oct. 30.
Also present will be the Lehighton State Police-Lehighton Barracks, Lehigh Valley Health Network, EMS and Monroe County Control Center E911.
Boyle benefit event
The Pocono Old Tyme Farm Equipment Association will be holding a benefit tractor pull at the West End Fairgrounds on Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning around 10 a.m. This year all the proceeds from the benefit tractor pull will go to the Mark Boyle family.
Mark was involved in a vehicle accident at his business property and died in the hospital. Mark would bring his tractors to pull at the West End Fair and the Carbon County Fair.
There will be food to purchase and a basket raffle.
