Local Roundup: results from Sept. 23
Tamaqua’s two cross country teams both earned first place at the Schuylkill Haven Invitational on Saturday.

Sch. Haven Invitational
Both Tamaqua teams took first place at the Schuylkill Haven Invitational.
The Blue Raiders’ Levi Kunkel won the boys race in a time of 20:43, while teammate Tony Marchetti finished runner-up just one second behind Kunkel.
Tamaqua, which topped five other teams to earn top honors, also received a fifth place from Jesse Gormely and a sixth from Stephen Kieffer.
In the girls competition, Tamaqua earned first among a field of four teams.
Lexi Buchala was the top Raider finisher, placing third. The winners also received top-10 performances from Samantha Plasha (fifth), Bailey Pliska (sixth), Isabella Jones (eighth) and Cali Frantz (10th).
GIRLS SOCCER
Salisbury-Lehighton
Karissa Moyer scored two goals and added three assists to power Lehighton to a 7-1 non-conference victory over Salisbury.
The Indians’ Charli McHugh chipped in with two goals and an assist, while Mylee Lutsko also added two goals.
The winners, who improved to 4-5, also received a goal from Emma Repsher, two assists from Avery Bauder and a helper from Lily Caruso.
Madison Reis had the only goal for the Falcons, who dropped to 0-9.
Catasauqua-No. Lehigh
Katelyn Barthold’s five-goal performance led Northern Lehigh to a 7-1 non-league victory over Catasauqua.
Victoria Hanna and Mikayla Gordon both also tallied for the Bulldogs, who won their seventh straight to improve to 9-1.
Lillyana Gacitua had the only score for the Roughies, who fell to 1-9.
NL goalie Dekotah Barthold registered two saves in the win.
Pleasant Valley-Nazareth
Nazareth shut out Pleasant Valley 3-0 in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.
Ava Petruska and Renee Wells each scored first-half goals for the Blue Eagles (9-1-1), while Olyria Hall capped the scoring with one in the second half.
Sadie Rizzo made 16 saves for the Bears, who slipped to 6-6.
BOYS SOCCER
Nazareth-Pleasant Valley
Cohen Lutz scored the game’s only goal in the second half to lift Nazareth to a 1-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.
Zachary Prator made one save for the Bears (7-5), while Blue Eagle keeper Noah Bogar ended with three stops.
The loss dropped PV to 7-5, while Nazareth upped its mark to 8-3-1.
VOLLEYBALL
Pleasant Valley at Northampton Tournament
Pleasant Valley finished first in their pool and reached the semifinal round before falling to Southern Lehigh at the Northampton Tournament.
The Bears swept Saucon Valley (25-14, 25-17), Whitehall (25-13, 25-10) and Northwestern (26-24, 25-20), and split with Notre Dame (25-21, 23-25) during pool play before defeating Jim Thorpe 25-8 in the quarterfinals.
PV, however, was denied a chance to play for the title when the Spartans won a 25-16 semifinal decision.
Rylee Ruggiero had a combined 32 kills and 14 digs during the tourney, while Lexi Womack added 21 kills, 27 digs and 13 assists.
The Bears’ Brianna Bruckman also contributed 10 kills, 69 assists and 34 digs - including the 1,000th assist of her career during the quarterfinal match against Thorpe. Hannah Akob also registered 19 kills and 38 digs.
JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
Panther Vy.-Mahanoy Area
Panther Valley dropped a 30-6 decision to Mahanoy Area.
Chase McArdle scored the only touchdown for the Panthers on a quarterback run.
Defensively, PV was led by Brody Vermilion and Adonis German.
Panther Vy.-Shenandoah
Shenandoah’s late defensive stand in the red zone allowed the Devils to edge Panther Valley 12-8.
PV was stopped on downs, preventing the Panthers from gaining the go-ahead score.
Carson Jones had the only touchdown for Panther Valley, while Chase McArdle added a two-point conversion.
The Panthers were led defensively by Tyler Hall and Tyler Boyd.
