Lehighton Borough Police Log

Lehighton Borough Police Department reported on the following incidents:

• At 7:09 p.m. Aug. 12, officers received a dispatch to the area of the 100 block of S. Third Street at the parking lot for the Lehigh Fire Company. Officers found two men arguing near the alley. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that a 41-year-old man was operating a motorized bicycle when he failed to stop before the intersection, causing him to collide with a Toyota pickup. The Toyota had visible damage from the crash.

The operator of the motorized bike denied EMS treatment. It was observed that the operator of the motorized bike appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. The operator of the bike was put through field testing on scene and subsequently arrested for DUI. Charges to be filed regarding this incident.

• At 1:35 a.m. Aug. 31, officers received a call that a red Toyota pickup was driving all over the roadway, with the last known reported location of the vehicle at Fegley’s Fast Fill gas station along Route 443. Officers observed a vehicle matching the description given and witnessed the vehicle to be operating in a reckless manner. A traffic stop was conducted, and the operator of the vehicle, a 55-year-old man, showed signs of impairment upon officer contact. He was given field sobriety tests and subsequently placed under arrest for DUI. The man was transported to St. Luke’s Carbon Campus for a blood draw. Charges for this case are pending upon receiving blood results from the lab.

• Police said that at 8:40 a.m. Sept. 8, stopped a 55-year-old man operating a motorcycle with no inspection, insurance and fraudulent use of registration on Route 443.

Police said the man showed signs of impairment.

Sobriety tests were administered and the man was then taken into custody and determined to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

The man refused to submit to a blood draw, and a search warrant was obtained. The blood was taken at a local hospital and charges are pending the results of blood analysis.

It was determined while on the traffic stop that the man possessed a DUI suspended license as a result of a prior DUI.
