Navy Club works with students on flag etiquette

The Carbon County Navy Club talked to first and third graders at the Panther Valley Elementary School in Nesquehoning Tuesday morning.

Scott Reinhart, club historian, and Robert Siesputowski, life member, spoke at two assemblies in the school gym, where they showed the students how the flag changed over the years, and taught them about how display the flag and care for the flag.

Students assisted by holding the various flags during the presentation, as well as learning how to properly fold the flag.

Reinhart said the Navy Club has been doing school presentations to teach youngsters about the flag, because school curriculum don’t always have history lessons about the flag.

The program was first suggested by a teacher in Schuylkill County, and the Navy Club of Carbon County adopted it, he said. The club has been presenting in schools for 10 years, Reinhart said.
