State police at Frackville
State police at the Frackville barracks reported on the following incidents that officers responded to in recent weeks:
• A 64-year-old woman from Mary D was scammed out of $700 in an incident that was reported to police at 3:34 p.m. Sept. 17. The resident of Forest Lane, Schuylkill Township, told police she was scammed online by someone posing as a PayPal employee.
• Police said narcotics were discovered by corrections officers at a prison at 1111 Altamont Boulevard in Ryan Township. Police said they were called there at 12:41 a.m. Aug. 29 after the drugs were found in a 2003 Ford Explorer by corrections officers conducting a vehicle checkpoint.
• Police are investigating the theft of a dune buggy from a 54-year-old New Philadelphia man. They were called at 12:03 a.m. Sept. 1 to a property on Eastside Drive, Blythe Township. The dune buggy is described as being a lime green sand-rail type vehicle.
• Jarmy Qiezada, 34, of Shenandoah, is facing charges after a traffic stop police made at 7:40 a.m. Sept. 2 on the Gold Star Highway in West Mahanoy Township. Police said they stopped him in a 2004 Ford Escape and found him to be in possession of a controlled substance and to be impaired. He was taken into custody, processed and released, police said.
• Police said they were summoned to a drug possession incident at 4:53 p.m. Sept. 2 at 3 Lincoln Avenue in Rush Township. The investigation is being continued.
• Police were called at 9:41 a.m. Sept. 12 to a property on Lower Road, Walker Township, where a 79-year-old Tamaqua man said someone called him claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearinghouse and attempted to extort money from him in exchange for “jackpot winnings.”
• Juan Negron, 46, of Coaldale, was cited by police for retail theft after an incident at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Walmart store, 35 Plaza Drive, Rush Township. Police said he “under-rang” 14 grocery items valued at $149.22 and was taken into custody, processed and released.
• Police were summoned at 8:27 p.m. Sept. 13 to a property at 39 Ridge Road, East Brunswick Township, where a New Ringgold woman someone posing as an Amazon customer service representative attempted to gain access to her bank accounts with intent to withdraw money from them on Sept. 12.
