Palmerton Borough officials recognized two outstanding citizens, Joseph Rogowitz and Larue Smith, with special commendations presented by Mayor Peter Delich at last evening’s meeting.

Delich said Rogowitz was being recognized for his response to an incident in the 800 block of Mauch Chunk Road, where he rushed to the scene and provided emergency care to a bicyclist who had collided with a car.

Smith was honored for her honesty. Delich said she found a bank envelope in the 400 block of Delaware Avenue that contained $600 in cash and immediately brought it to the police department where after an investigation the money was returned to a senior citizen who had withdrawn it from the bank to pay for his furnace repairs only to lose it.
