State police at Fern Ridge - Crashes

State police at Fern Ridge releases information on several crashes:

• Three people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 5:03 p.m. Sept. 1 on Weir Lake Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said they included Neptina Rodriguez, 53, of Brooklyn, New York, the driver of one of the vehicles, and two passengers in the car, Miguel A. Torres, 54, and Alyssa Torres, 19, both also of Brooklyn. Police said emergency personnel were not needed at the scene.

Police said the incident happened when a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Rodriguez was stopped at a red traffic signal facing north on Weir Lake Road, when it was struck from behind by a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Steven W. George, 23, of Albrightsville. He was uninjured.

• Catherine A. Peoples, 35, of Blakeslee, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:27 a.m. Sept. 3 on Route 534 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was driving a 2018 Hyundai Tucson eastbound when she swerved to avoid striking a deer that had entered the roadway. The car left its lane of travel and struck a drainage ditch. It sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene police said.

• Marc K. Loughran, 45, of Effort, was injured in a crash at 3:01 a.m. Aug. 20 on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the West End Fire and Rescue Company to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg. Police said the severity of his injuries is unknown.

Police said they were called to a motor vehicle crash near Route 115 and the Jonas Road and found Loughran at the Exxon/Unit Mart.

They said they were told he was traveling north on Route 115 approaching the intersection with Barney Lane when it left the right side of the road and struck a mailbox and a large boulder.

Police said they observed indicators of impairment related to alcoholic beverage consumption at the time.

Loughran was cited for the crash.

• Police said a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban had minor damages and a flat tire when it drove through a construction zone and struck a ditch at 8:37 p.m. Sept. 3.

Police did not identify the driver of the vehicle but said it made a left turn onto Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, traveled through an opening in construction cones and entered the ditch that was opened for construction work. Police said no injuries were reported or observed and the vehicle left the scene.

• George G. Mazyck Jr., 33, of Neptune, New Jersey, was cited for “following too closely” following a mishap at 1:23 p.m. Sept. 1 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Police said he was driving a 2014 International Harvester that rear-ended a 2023 Volvo driven by Ian A. Schmidt, 24, of Jessup, pushing it forward into a 2014 Buick Lacrosse operated by Dymir U. Montague, 23, of Philadelphia, and a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Brian M. Zimmerman, 39, of Drums.

No one was injured in the incident. All of the vehicles were damaged, police said, with the Volvo having been towed from the scene.

• Eric W. Houston, 39, of Bangor, was injured in a motorcycle crash at 11:26 a.m. Aug. 27 on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the West End Community Ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg.

Police said he was operating a 2022 Harley-Davidson motorcycle north on Route 115 when it struck the rear of a 2013 Audi operated by Eterie Matcharashvili, 33, of Albrightsville, which was stopped in the center turn lane attempting to travel into the Dollar General store parking lot. She was not injured.
