Local Roundup: Results from Sept. 12
Both PV volleyball teams remained undefeated after gaining victories on Tuesday.
Pleasant Valley topped Emmaus, while Panther Valley downed Shenandoah.
VOLLEYBALL
Emmaus-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley rallied after a first-set loss to gain a 21-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-19 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Emmaus.
The win was the first for head coach John Gesiskie against the Hornets during his 30-year tenure.
Lexi Womack and Rylee Ruggiero both finished with 18 kills for the Bears, who remain undefeated at 7-0. Womack also had 19 digs, while Ruggiero added five blocks.
PV received six kills and 11 digs from Hannah Akob and four kills from Kara Miller, while Brianna Bruckman contributed a career-high 42 assists to go along with her four blocks and three aces. Amiyah Poliseno chipped in with 18 digs, and Alexis Wilkes ended with 11 digs.
The loss dropped Emmaus to 4-2.
Shenandoah-Panther Valley
Panther Valley continued its winning ways with a 25-12, 25-11, 25-9 Schuylkill League sweep of Shenandoah Valley.
Riley McArdle had 10 kills and an ace to lead the Panthers, who are still unbeaten at 6-0.
Abby Benack added seven assists and two aces to the PV cause, while Natalie Vermillion finished with four kills.
The Panthers also won the JV match, 2-0.
Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe
Jim Thorpe posted a 25-12, 25-5, 25-17 sweep of Pine Grove in Schuylkill League action.
JaeLynn Browdy collected 11 kills and seven digs to lead the Olympians, while Maggy Hallihan added 27 assists and two kills.
Thorpe also received nine kills and 10 digs from Brooke Mitzen, with Kelsey Patton and Brianna Snisky both chipping in with four kills. Patton added three blocks, and Olivia Calcaño finished with eight digs.
The Olympians improved to 5-1, while the Cardinals slipped to 1-5.
Weatherly-Marian
Marian swept past Weatherly in Schuylkill League action, posting a 25-5, 25-8, 25-17 victory.
Abbey Kluck paced the Fillies with nine kills, three digs and an ace, while Julia Meiss contributed 20 assists, six aces, three kills and two digs.
The winners also received 18 aces, five digs and three kills from Isabella Horvat. Alena Lombardo chipped in with six kills and two aces, with Zoe Katona adding five aces.
Kelly Reiner had two kills and three digs for the Wreckers. Taylor Davidovich finished with 10 assists and three digs.
Marian is now 5-2, while Weatherly dropped to 0-7.
Blue Mountain-Lehighton
Lehighton dropped a 25-17, 25-22, 25-15 Schuylkill League match to Blue Mountain.
Lorah Thomas had six kills and five blocks for the Indians, while Autumn Clewell finished with 17 assists and seven digs.
Jocelynn Kuhn also chipped in with two kills and two blocks.
Lehighton slipped to 5-2, while the Eagles upped their mark to 4-1.
BOYS SOCCER
Saucon Valley-Palmerton
AJ Borger scored the game’s only goal to lift Palmerton to a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.
Devlin Dillon assisted on the tally to help give the Blue Bombers their first league win of the season.
Palmerton keeper Dillon Lombardi collected 10 saves to earn the shutout.
The Bombers are now 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the league, while the Panthers fell to 0-5 and 0-4.
No. Lehigh-Notre Dame GP
Notre Dame Green Pond cruised to a 9-0 Colonial League win over visiting Northern Lehigh.
Jimmy Stock had 12 saves for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the league.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Lehighton
Charli McHugh and Sadie Monk both scored two goals to lead Lehighton to a 4-0 Schuylkill League win over visiting Jim Thorpe.
McHugh also added an assist, while Mylee Lutsko, Avery Wieder and Karissa Moyer all chipped in with helpers.
Indian keeper Ciara Behrel made nine saves to earn the shutout. Thorpe’s goalie, Olivia Rosenberger, stopped 11 shots.
Lehighton improved to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the league, while the Olympians slipped to 2-4 and 1-2.
Notre Dame GP-No. Lehigh
Katelynn Barthold had two goals to help lift Northern Lehigh to a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Notre Dame Green Pond.
Gabriella Hanna and Victoria Hanna both tallied for the Bulldogs, who upped their record to 4-1 overal as well as in the league.
Mikayla Gordon finished with a pair of assists, while Nat Moffitt also added a helper.
Nolehi keeper Dekota Barthold made six saves to post the shutout.
Palmerton-Saucon Valley
Palmerton’s Aubrey Frable scored two goals, but it wasn’t enough as Saucon Valley edged the Blue Bombers 4-3 in Colonial League action.
Elliot Policare had two goals and an assist for the Panthers, while Tesia Mikuta added a goal and an assist.
The Bombers, who slipped to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the league, also received a goal from Nataly Walters and 11 saves from keeper Emma Snyder.
Saucon improved to 3-1.
Pottsville-Marian
Marian suffered an 11-0 Schuylkill League loss to Pottsville.
Kelly Goodman, Abbie Davis and Isabella Wright all had two goals for the Tide, now 4-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Maddie Kattner finished with 17 saves for the Fillies, who dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Weatherly-Nativity
Nativity slipped past Weatherly, 1-0, in Schuylkill League action.
Kendall Gerhart registered seven saves for the Wreckers, who fell to 0-4 overall and in the league.

The Northwestern girls went a perfect 3-0 during a Colonial League cross country meet at Bangor, while the Tiger boys finished 2-1.
Sophia Cornell paced the Northwestern girls with a second-place showing, while teammate Haley Dubois crossed in fourth place.
The Northern Lehigh girls, who were 0-3, received a third from Emma Heil while the Bombers (0-3) were led by Emma Rex’s fifth-place finish.
The boys race was won by Palmerton’s Connor Hibell, who crossed in 16:20.5. The Bombers went 1-2 in the meet.
Xander Giandomenico had the best finish for the Tigers, placing seventh.

Southern Lehigh handed Northwestern its first loss, posting a 2-0 Colonial League victory over the Tigers.
Delaney Mack and Piper Gluck each had goals for the Spartans, now 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the league.
Northwestern, who also sports a 5-1 mark, had four shots on goal and received 10 saves from its goalie.

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe
Blue Mountain gained a 5-0 victory over Jim Thorpe.
The Eagles earned straight-set wins in every match, including all three singles players - Leah Walasavage, Natalie Brown and Mackenzie Romi.
The winners improved to 4-2, while the Olympians dropped to 1-6.
