State police at Bethlehem are investigating the theft of more than $220,000 from a home in East Allen Township.

A 44-year-old man from Northampton reported the theft at 8 a.m. Sept. 2.

Police said he told them between 1 a.m. Aug. 31 and 9 p.m. Sept. 1 someone gained entry to the safe at his residence along Goldcris Lane and stole the cash. Police said it is believed $223,150 in cash was taken from the safe.

Police said the homeowner said only a few people knew the location and combination to the safe. These people have been identified, police said.
