If you are looking to visit Jim Thorpe on a weekend in October and don’t want to battle the parking in the downtown lot, there is a solution that may help.

Last month, the Carbon County commissioners approved an agreement with LANTA to provide shuttle service from Mauch Chunk Lake Park to the Mauch Chunk Opera House on Saturdays and Sundays in October, beginning Oct. 7.

Recently, the board provided more information on how to secure a parking spot and seat on the shuttle on the day you are visiting.

Reservations to park at Mauch Chunk Lake Park are $25 plus a $3 service charge. The fee includes parking, as well as shuttle fare for two people. Additional round-trip fares on the bus may be purchased at the main gate for $6 per person.

According to the county, only 25 permits per arrival time will be sold for the four time slots, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The shuttles will then depart for Jim Thorpe at 10 a.m. and run every 10 to 15 minutes.

Guests will then be dropped off and picked up at the Mauch Chunk Opera House, with the last shuttle departing for the lake at 5 p.m.
