Blockers donates to swimming pool, Jukebox Cruisers
A Lehighton business has given back to the community which has served it well for three-quarters of a century.
Blockers Collision Center on Tuesday presented a check for $840 to Baer Memorial Swimming Pool.
Last month, Blockers Collision Center held a car show in honor of its 75th anniversary, which attracted 83 vehicles.
Tom Evans, borough recreation director, said it was “an awesome donation.”
“I’d like to thank Blockers; they’ve done a lot of work for us and saved us $15,000 over the last two years,” Evans said. “It’s a huge donation for our community pool.”
Evans said Blockers sanded down and repainted the pool’s water features; took down the stairs for the blue slide and repainted them, “and they’re still helping. This year, they’re going to repaint the frog and the fish waterslides.”
Joe Curran, a member of Jukebox Cruisers, said that Blockers asked them to host the car show.
“They said they would like to do it and help the community out; we jumped on board and it was a huge success,” Curran said. “Blockers Collision did a great job helping with making the show a success.”
Also on Tuesday, Blockers Collision Center presented a check for $100 to the Jukebox Cruisers, for hosting the car show.
Tarone Blocker, shop owner, said that his late father, Elwood Blocker, started the business in 1948, and said his dad had two brothers who worked with him.
Blocker said that the family business is going into its fourth generation.
As a token of its appreciation, Blockers has given out a $25 gift certificate each week to local businesses in Carbon County for the past year.
Curran said that the Jukebox Cruisers has more than 140 members.
He said the next car show is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Boyer Farm across from Tractor Supply on Route 443.
Curran said the proceeds from that event will go to the St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church of Nesquehoning.
