Weisstock offers food, fun
The 3rd Annual Weisstock Festival was held in the Weissport Borough Park on Friday and Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
“We had more people Friday than last year,” said Nicole Baker, director of the St Peter’s Community Resource Center and the head of the festival committee. The weather was great for an outdoor festival.
“We have a full lineup of entertainment, and our contests are popular,” Baker said. “The limbo contest, the cake walk, the pizza eating contest, and the Best Pizza in Carbon County; everybody loves that!”
Funds raised by the festival are divided between the St. Peter’s Community Resource Center and the Weissport Event Committee.
Entertainment for the festival included 7th & Mahoning, The Amazing Carson, Allison Foelier, Dawn Warnkin, and Sweet Revenge. The park was filled with craft vendors and plenty of delicious foods.
Among the food vendors, Kitty Kat Concessions had their famous Tomato Pie.
Shoenberger’s Meat Market had a barbecue grill going.
The Parryville Fire Company had funnel cake and fried Oreo cookies. The Sword Tag Society was selling hand made “Axe-Ceptionally Good Fudge.”
“I love the people,” explained Mary Pachorkowsky of Kitty Kat Concessions. “It can be stressful when I’m preparing for these events; but, once I’m here and meet the people, I’m happy.”
Shane George of Lehighton, a caricature artist, enjoyed working at the festival and was very busy over the two days of Weisstock.
“I was working at resorts and places like that,” he explained. “But, I preferred to sign up for events like this.”
The contest winners: The Best Pizza in Carbon County, 3 Brothers Pizza;
Limbo Contest, Brooks Coulson; Pizza Eating Champion, Bill Mooney;
Karaoke Contest, Victoria Miller.
Next year’s dates for the festival will be Aug. 30 and 31, 2024.
