Police warn residents about distraction burglary

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Criminal Investigation Unit in Bethlehem is investigating a burglary that occurred in North Whitehall Township.

Police said troopers were dispatched at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to Spruce Street for a report of a burglary. The victim told police he had his driveway done a few months ago and was told by an employee of the company that they would return to seal coat it.

On Aug. 29, a man arrived at the residence in a silver or light blue truck and asked for additional money to seal coat the driveway. This was different from the original company’s quote, the victim told police.

The following day, a white man, described as having a thin build and in his 60s, came to the victim’s residence and said he was working for the “city” and wanted to show the victim lines they would be installing in the rear of his property.

After speaking to the man, the victim returned to his residence and later found the safe in his bedroom had been broken into. The valuables inside it had been stolen, the victim said.

Troopers are reminding residents to keep their doors locked when leaving their house and to be aware when strangers ask them to leave their house.

Troopers are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them at 610-861-2026 and reference incident number PA2023-1131806.
