Franklin memorial service
Franklin Township Soldiers K.I.A. Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 9.
This service first started in 1988 by teacher, Larry Hill and his students at Franklin Elementary.
When the school closed in 2018 a new monument was erected at Phifer’s Ice Dam.
This year’s participants are former and present Lehighton students and teachers and the Lehighton UVO.
All are welcome to come to the program held at the pavilion to continue honoring and remembering these Franklin Township Heroes who offered the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in freedom.
BECC
Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 222 North St., Lehighton, will hold Morning Worship at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m.

St. John’s Evangelical
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, 826 Mahoning Dr. W., Lehighton will hold an outdoor worship service at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday.
Dinkey Memorial has a community food cupboard available to those in need of supplemental food resources. It is available to members of Dinkey Memorial and St. John’s, and to residents of East Penn Township. The distribution is the third Thursday of every month from 3:30-5 p.m. in Dinkey’s Social Room, located below the sanctuary. If you or anyone you know would benefit from receiving food from the Community Cupboard, please speak with Pastor Tony.
The church will hold its Fall Bazaar Sept. 29, from 5-7:30 p.m. and Sept. 30, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a free Kids Pumpkin Hunt at 11 a.m. In addition, there will be a bake sale, homemade food, basket raffle, fall decorations, candy, plants, pans of filling, raffle tickets. A portion of the profits will go to Food for the Poor.
St. John’s has an opening for a cemetery trustee in charge of lot reservations and funerals. A job description is available for review. Anyone interested in this position can contact Dennis through the church office by calling 570-386-9960 or personally at 570-657-1093.
Ben Salem UCC
Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton will hold Sunday Worship Service at 8 a.m. with a Praise Band and a 10:15 a.m. traditional service. Communion service will be the first Sunday of each month. Sunday school classes will begin at 9 a.m. on Sept. 10.

The Fall Festival will be held at Ben Salem UCC on Sept. 29 from 5-7:30 p.m. and Sept. 30 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Come and enjoy the food, homemade crafts, bake sale and basket raffle.
Trinity Happenings
There is no First Friday Quiet Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, in September.
First Saturday worship with Holy Communion is at 4 p.m. on Sept. 2.
Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 9:30 a.m. Communion is served by continuous line with wafer placed in your open hand, and wine or grape juice in a small cup. Gluten free wafers are available to those with allergy issues. The Rev. Nancy L. Moore presides.
The church office is closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.
The Trinity Thrift Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Donation drop-offs are accepted during store hours on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, limited to five bags or boxes. Sales receipts support the food pantry. The thrift store requests clean, empty boxes with lids that contained reams of paper.
Sunday church school for students age 3 through 6th grade resumes Sept. 10 at 10:45 a.m.

The Illini 4000 Bike team that stayed over at Trinity on their journey across America has reached its destination. Their 77-day journey ended Aug. 12 in San Francisco, California. Their goal was raising funds and awareness for their cancer charities. They logged 4,717 miles and raised $80,000. Information can be viewed at www.illini4000.org.
