Local Roundup: Results from Aug. 28
Palmerton had success in three sports Monday as the field hockey, girls soccer and golf teams all gained wins.
Northwestern also posted victories in three sports - girls soccer, golf and volleyball.
BOYS SOCCER
Pottsville-Lehighton
Lehighton opened Schuylkill League action with a 4-0 victory over visiting Pottsville.
Jaxson Strauss, Shawn Tomsic, Jesse Luakscuwski and Gabe Reed all had goals for the Indians, who improved to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the league.
Lehighton’s Jacob Anthony added an assist.
The winners also received nine saves from keeper Bryce Miller.
Weatherly-Nativity
Nativity pulled away in the second half to claim a 10-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.
The Wreckers, playing in their season opener, trailed only 3-1 at the break before their opponent exploded for seven goals after halftime.
Vincent Paisley accounted for Weatherly’s only goal, while John Puzzetti assisted on the tally.
FIELD HOCKEY
Palmerton-Catasauqua
Strong offensive games from Tessa Sander and Sydney Frantz helped Palmerton gain a 6-3 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.
Sander finished with a hat trick for the Blue Bombers, while Frantz - who recently set the all-time school record for goals - tallied twice and added a pair of assists.
The winners also received a goal from Mackenzie Long, and Alisyn Green picked up an assist. Goalie Sarah Sabo collected seven saves in the win, which boosts Palmerton’s record to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
The Rough Riders (0-2; 0-2) were led by two goals from Jordan Soltis.
Brandywine Heights-Lehighton
Gabby Brown had two goals and an assist to help power Lehighton to a 5-0 victory over visiting Brandywine Heights.
The Indians (1-1) also received goals from Gianna Failla, Abby Bauder and Maggie Pagotto.
Goalie Grayson Frey finished with 13 saves for Lehighton, which collected 24 shots in the contest.
Pleasant Valley-Easton
Gavin Krock and Nicolas Arevalo both scored goals to lift Pleasant Valley to a 2-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Easton.
David Halla assisted on the two tallies, which helped the Bears improve to 2-0.
GIRLS SOCCER
Palmerton-Jim Thorpe
Palmerton won its third straight contest to open the season after shutting out Jim Thorpe, 6-0, in non-league action.
Aubrey Frable scored two goals to lead the Blue Bombers.
Palmerton also received goals from Nataly Walters, Hadlee Lake, Hannah Barry and Addi Buck.
The Bombers, who haven’t allowed a goal yet this season, are 3-0 while the Olympians are 0-1.
Northwestern-Blue Mountain
Cammy Fitch scored the game’s only goal as Northwestern came away with a 1-0 non-league victory over Blue Mountain.
Katie Brensinger assisted on Fitch’s goal, which helped the Tigers improve to 3-0.
Northwestern keeper Olivia Reinhart made four saves in the shutout win.
Easton-Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley dropped a 5-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference decision to Easton 5-1.
Kendall Popp had two goals and an assist to pace the Red Rovers, who led 4-0 at halftime.
The Bears received a goal from Aryn Stivala, while Peyton Foder registered an assist.
The loss dropped PV to 1-2.
GIRLS TENNIS
Bethlehem Catholic-Pleasant Valley
Carly Rehrig and Molly Schaffner both posted wins in singles action to help Pleasant Valley gain a 4-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Bethlehem Catholic.
Rehrig and Schaffner each earned straight-set decisions, as did the Bears’ No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Rosenberg and Mariana Barrigan.
PV (2-3) also gained a win at No. 2 doubles as the duo of Cecilia Cordova and Shannon Price rallied from a first-set loss.

The Olympians didn’t drop a set in improving to 1-3.
Ashlynn Miller, Keira Reese and Chloe Tantala all picked up straight-set victories in singles play, while the teams of Ada Finsel and Lila DeJessa, and Diamond Alvear and Noelanie Sepulveda took care of business in doubles action.

The Tigers received scores of 88 from three of their golfers - Stone Sosnovik, Avri Chandler and Cole Dynda.
The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Norah Silfies had eight kills and three aces for the Tigers in their season opener.
Shannon Green contributed 22 assists and three aces to the victory, while Kylie Nagle added 21 digs and four aces.
The loss dropped the Bombers to 0-2.
Marian-Hazleton
Marian handed coach Maria Serina a milestone victory with a 25-10, 25-13, 17-25, 25-15 non-conference win over Hazleton.
The Fillies helped Serina reach 200 career wins as they evened out their record at 1-1.
Abbey Kluck finished with 22 digs and 20 kills in the victory, while Julia Meiss dished out 33 assists and recorded five aces.
Isabella Horvat (21 digs) and Megan Reaman (17 digs) played strong defense, and Alena Lombardo and Emily D’Amato added to the attack with five kills apiece.
