A Labor Day tradition of music, food and fundraising is returning to the Panther Valley.
The Jesse Hiles Zoostock 2023 will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 4 on the grounds of the former Sports Zoo, 390 W. Snyder Ave., Lansford.
Proceeds from the free, popular event benefit the American Cancer Society Eastern PA Telethon 2024.
“This is the 24th annual Zoostock It is a huge fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Typically our attendance is between 500 and 800 people,” said Lisa Hiles, a volunteer.
Going forward, the event will be held to honor the late Jesse Hiles, Zoostock founder and owner of the Sports Zoo. He passed away in January.
The family-friendly event will feature performances by Lyle Mantz, Hatter, Mr. Moon, Ricky & the Ricfgardos, The Coal Reefers playing music by Jimmy Buffet, Sweet Revenge and Project 9.
The co-emcees will be Telethon house band leader Dave Freeman and longtime Zoostock volunteer Kaylee Gilbert.
Lisa Hiles noted that the Sports Zoo and Halftime Lounge has been closed.
“We are so thankful to the owners, Kevin and Dee Zuercher for being gracious to us, and allowing us to have our fundraiser on the property where it all began,” she said.
There will be food for purchase including pizza, burgers, hot dogs, haluski, French fries, kielbasa and funnel cakes. Adult beverages and soft drinks will be available.
A basket raffle will be held and there will be games and amusements for children.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
