Kohberger murder trial delayed indefinitely

The capital murder trial of the Monroe County man charged with killing four University of Idaho students has been delayed indefinitely, according to media reports.

On Wednesday, Bryan Kohberger, a Pleasant Valley High School graduate who was studying at Washington State University at the time of the killings, was in court and waived his right to a speedy trial.

Kohberger’s trial had been set for Oct. 2 but is now delayed indefinitely after the judge accepted his right to waive a speedy trial.

Kohberger, 28, is charged with killing the four students in the early hours of Nov. 13, 2022, at a house in Moscow, Idaho, which is just across the state line from Pullman, Washington, where Washington State is located.

Kohberger was a doctoral student in WSU’s criminology department.

Idaho prosecutors have said they will seek the death penalty if Kohberger is convicted of killing the students.

Kohberger was taken into custody on Dec. 30 at the home of his parents in Indian Mountain Lake, Monroe County. He was home on winter break.

Kohberger is accused of stabbing to death Ethan Chapin, 20; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

The next pre-trial hearing on the case is scheduled for Sept. 1.
