The Lansford Borough Council last night named James Strauss to be the town’s new police chief.

The appointment was the second time in weeks that Strauss was named to the position; he was named chief on June 19. After that appointment, Councilman Stanley Zwolenik, a member of council and the borough’s Civil Service Commission, said council went about the process in the wrong order, saying the commission needed to go through the process before the council. After council reversed that appointment, the commission selected three people for the council to consider. Besides Strauss, they included Sgt. John Turcmanovich and Officer Jack Soberick.

Strauss is currently serving as chief of police in Coaldale.
