When the Ashfield Park Association hatched the idea for a community day, it was with the intent of showcasing the park and having some fun.
The idea worked; Sunday’s Community Day at Ashfield Park was a success.
“We’re trying to get people into our park,” said Ashfield Park Association President Bernard Hosier. “We’re an older park, and we’re trying to revamp it a little, and trying to get our community together.”
The day featured food from the park’s kitchen, a basket auction, plus a bounce house and games for the children. Buster the Clown greeted people and made his popular balloon animals.
The East Penn Fire Company, Lehighton Ambulance and Lehighton Police, along with the Carbon Animal Response Team, had tables and displays.
Children could take tours of the fire engines on display. The Lehighton Ambulance offered first aid demonstrations, and the Carbon County Animal Response Team brought along some ducklings for people to hold.
