Franklin looks to study sewer expansion

Franklin Township is considering a feasibility study to determine where expansion should be.

Supervisors Chairman Fred Kemmerer suggested the study. The township is interested in expanding the line to Christman ball field.

The township also wants to be prepared if a proposed 72-home development goes through.

The sewer line, which encompasses Lehighton, Franklin, Mahoning and Weissport, is 20 years old.

Approximately 600 customers in Franklin Township are on the initial sewer line.

New customers would pay $3,000 to connect and then $60 a month.

The study was tabled until a workshop can be held to give people a chance to voice their opinion..

A feasibility study can be done by Doug Kopp of Arro Consulting at a cost of $5,500.

A meeting date will be announced.
