August 18, 1983 - Cindy Miller of Tamaqua shoots an 82 during her third round to help capture the Mahoning Valley Country Club women’s championship. Miller trails Betty Jean Armbruster by a stroke after the first two rounds but her 82, compared to Armbruster’s 91, gives her an eight-stroke victory. Miller finishes with a 254, carding scores of 86 in both of the first two rounds. In the first flight, Jim Thorpe’s Mil Huegel fires a 269 (85-88-96) to defeat Peg Usowski of Hometown. The second flight is captured by Tamaqua’s Betty Weaver.
