Palmerton’s 125th celebration continues with concert

The Palmerton Area Historical Society is selling tickets for upcoming events.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the Heritage Center will be open to visitors and feature a large selection of local memorabilia for sale.

While checking out the new display of vintage photographs depicting Palmerton’s 125-year history, you can buy tickets for two of the upcoming anniversary events - the Allentown Symphony Pops Concert and the Historical Bus Tours of the town.

The Allentown Symphony will play its first Carbon County concert at 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of the Palmerton Area High School.

The symphony, under the baton of Diane Wittry, Musical Director/Conductor, will perform familiar tunes from “Wizard of Oz,” “Star Wars,” “Lord of the Rings” and others.

“We wanted to offer an affordable way for area residents to see the symphony perform, as well as celebrate the 125th anniversary of our town,” said Historical Society President Jane Borbe, “This will truly be a once in a lifetime event.”

Tickets, which cost $20 for adults and $10 for students, will be available for sale at the Heritage Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. If you would like to purchase tickets online, visit https://palmertonhistoricalsociety.ludus.com or visit the Historical Society Facebook Page.

In addition to the symphony concert, the society will be offering historical bus tours during the Palmerton Community Festival at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9. Tours will take place at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. The early tour each day will be hosted by Lynn Shupp and the latter tour by Roy Christman. Tickets, which will be a commemorative keepsake of Palmerton’s 125th anniversary, are $5 per person.
