LCCC-Tamaqua offers free classes

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Lehigh Carbon Community College’s Morgan Center in Tamaqua is offering a selection of tuition-free courses.

The for-credit courses are geared to future students exploring careers in business and entrepreneurship, said LCCC President Dr. Ann Bieber.

The free offerings include classes in business organization, management, business law, macroeconomics, math and English.

Guest students may enroll in up to 12 credits before transitioning to a degree-seeking student.

“The value of these courses, which begin Aug. 28, is their ability to help stimulate and support the growth of entrepreneurial talent in the Tamaqua area,” Bieber said.

The classes will be covered through a fund of The Morgan Foundation.

“The fund was created to enhance business and entrepreneurship in the local community, and the college is committed to providing various resources to support these efforts,” Bieber said.

Interested students should contact the Morgan Center at 570-668-6680 or morgan@lccc.edu for more information and to complete the application. Noncredit training opportunities in business and entrepreneurship will be offered in the coming months.

The opportunity is another way that LCCC is continuing the legacy of the late John E. Morgan’s generosity and entrepreneurial spirit, Bieber said. Since the Morgan Center opened its doors 20 years ago, the Morgan Foundation has been providing free college tuition to Tamaqua Area High School graduates who study at the center.

“As a Tamaqua resident and prominent businessman Mr. Morgan was committed to helping students achieve their dreams and attracting industry to the area,” Bieber said. “The Morgan Scholarship Program for credit students was the first of its kind in the nation. Since 2003, Tamaqua High School graduates have been able to attend LCCC through the fund.”
