Walnutport Borough council announced on Thursday it will hold a memorial dedication at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the borough hall for former council President William Turk. Council’s regular monthly meeting will follow at 7 p.m.
Councilman Samuel Hartman donated $200 donation toward the memorial.
In May, council appointed Hartman on a 4-2 vote to the vacant seat caused by Turk’s passing.
Since Turk served as president of council, a vote had to be taken to name a successor.
Councilman Michael Gaston, a council member for more than 20 years, was then appointed as president of council.
A longtime councilman, Turk passed away in April at the age of 91, after more than 30 years as a councilman, the majority of which were as council president.
