Volunteer firefighters from four counties helped the Slatington Hose Company No. 1 celebrate its 100th anniversary in grand style on Saturday.

Nearly 75 pieces of equipment from companies in Lehigh, Carbon, Northampton and Bucks counties took part in the event.

The grand marshal was Charles E. Hughes, a member of the company since 1940 who has played a very active role in many of the activities of the company.

The company first convened on Aug. 12, 1885, when E.J. Stettler was named chairman and P.E. Schlaugh was its secretary. Following the filing of a petition for the right to continue, a court confirmation approving its charter was given on Dec. 3 of that year.
