A response to Rose Mary Cannon’s recent Letter to the Editor concerning the Lansford Train Station Project.
In her recent letter she claimed the residents of Lansford would end up paying for the costs of the train station purchase.
If Rose Mary would have made a simple phone call to the borough office she would have known the Borough of Lansford received a check in the amount of $75,000 from the state to pay for the station purchase on July 17.
The check was received and deposited in the bank some two weeks before she made her allegations that no such grant money was forthcoming. She has continually made allegations the purchase was somehow improper, however the purchase was reviewed by both the borough’s auditor and a state grant analyst prior to the borough receiving the grant money to ensure the purchase was proper.
No impropriety was discovered. Shortly the borough will be receiving an additional check from the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau, one of our partners in the station project, in the amount of $9,500 to cover legal fees, closing costs and other expenses related to station purchase all to ensure that no tax dollars are spent on this project.
