Third Dewey Night

The final and third Dewey Bus Night, a mobile library, will be held tonight at PVE. It is a read-aloud to the younger group at 5 and grade students at 6 p.m.

Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Post 927 Auxiliary will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Post home in Gilbert.

Eldred planners

The Eldred Township Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Municipal Building on Kunkletown Road.

Bike night

The Legion’s Road House Bike Night is set for 5 p.m. Thursday at Texas Roadhouse in Stroudsburg. All bikes and cars are welcome. Call Z.Taylor at 425-345-4953.

The Post 927 Legion Riders will meet at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Legion home in Gilbert.

Missions meal

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting the West End Mission meal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Knights meeting

The Knights of Columbus will meet from 7-9:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

WELL board meets

The West End Little League Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715. It is a closed meeting. The public meeting is next week Thursday at the same time, same place.

Donations needed

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is still in need for school supplies, such as pencils, pens, notebooks, markers, post-its, folders colored pencils and highlighters; sneakers for boys, girls, men and women; socks, for the same; underwear, including hipsters for girls & women and boxer briefs for boys and men, as well as personal care items such as toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, body wash, etc.

Supplies can be brought to the PVEN Clothing Closet at 2338 Route 209, Sciota, and left in the donation bins on the porch at any time. School donations will be accepted until the end of day Aug. 17. For questions, call the PVEN at 570-992-3136.

Pizza pick-up

Reminder to all who ordered pizza from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effort: pick-up is from 4-5 p.m. Friday.

Primetimers meet

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will host a Primetimers gathering on Friday for those 50 years and older. Attendees are reminded to bring a dish to share. Meet in the lower level for a time of fellowship.

Spanish Group

The Spanish Prayer Group will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. A Spanish Mass is offered at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday breakfast

McMichaels UMC is hosting its donation-only complete breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Saturday. All invited. Take-out available.

Pantry is open

Effort UMC’s food pantry, the Supplemental Food Resource Center, is open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Flag Day ceremony

The American Legion, Gilbert, will host a Flag Day ceremony at noon Sunday.

Youth Group meets

Effort UMC’s next youth group meeting is from 12:3-2:30 p.m.

There are two groups. The first is for those entering 3rd to 6th grades in September and the second group is for pre-teens, teens entering 7th to 12th grade. Meetings will generally be held on Sundays (twice per month) from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Call 570-629-1890 during regular office hours.

Sunday supper

A Community Sunday Supper is being served at 3 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Art exhibit open

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced the Wonderful Works of Wood and All That is Wild Art Exhibit, withphotographer Matt Giambra and woodworker Drew Wagner.

Summer movie time

Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, is hosting a free monthly movie night at 5 p.m. Sunday. Shown will be “Last Ounce of Courage.”

Pizza, refreshments, sides, salad, and desserts will also be provided.

Rosary bonfire

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church’s next Family Rosary Bonfire is from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the fire pit behind the Pavilion to pray the Rosary and enjoy some s’mores. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Open Bingo night

American Legion Post 927’s home, Gilbert, continues to host open-to-the-community bingo Monday evenings, with card sales beginning at 6:30 p.m. and play at 7 p.m. Food and beverages available for purchase.

Western Pocono Women’s Club

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will meet a week early because of the West End Fair. The club meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Effort UMC. The club’s HOBY representative, Mira Giunta, will share her experience from this summer’s seminar.

The club is seeking school supplies for donating such as: dry erase (Expo) markers, pencils, Crayola Crayons, sticky notes, glue sticks and 2-pocket folders.
