Turnpike incidents
State Police at the Pocono barracks reported on the following incidents on the Northeast Extension of the Turnpike:
• A 2021 Jeep Renegade operated by Justine N. Unkle, 32, of Palmerton, sustained a flat rear passenger-side tire in an incident at 10 p.m. July 20. She was uninjured.
Police said she was southbound in the area of mile marker 105 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike when her vehicle struck rocks that had fallen from a dump truck bed.
The driver of the 2006 Mack, Kevin C. Jones, 53, of Moosic, was cited for failure to secure a load on the truck.
• A 17-year-old Bethlehem boy was cited in a one-vehicle crash at 1:43 a.m. July 30 on the Northeast Extension of the turnpike.
He was operating a 2004 Dodge that struck a concrete barrier with its driver’s side at mile marker 83.6 in Penn Forest Township. The vehicle slid across both lanes and struck a guide rail on the west berm with its right front fender, resulting in disabling damages.
• Jordan S. Swerdel, 38, of Jim Thorpe, was uninjured when he was involved in a two-vehicle crash at 12:56 p.m. July 24 on Interstate 95 in Bristol Township.
Police said he was driving a 2020 Hyundai Sonata southbound when a 2022 Toyota Prius driven by Sandeep Sinha, 52, of Phoenix, Arizona, which was also southbound, moved into the right lane and its right rear struck the left front of the Sonata, causing minor damages to both vehicles.
State Police at King of Prussia said the Prius then spun, crossing the ramp and striking a concrete barrier on the right side of the highway, causing disabling damages to its left side.
Sinha was cited for the incident.
• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash that involved a Kunkletown at 1:01 p.m. July 30 at mile marker 47.5 in Lower Milford Township.
Police said Madison N. Finley, 21, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima southbound when she failed to slow for the flow of traffic and the Altima rear-ended a 2020 Subaru Forester driven by Nicole O. Kachmar, 43, of Hamburg.
Police said the Altima sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene while the Forester had minor damages and was able to be driven from the scene by its operator.
• Joy L. Knecht, 60, of Kunkletown, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 7:40 a.m. July 28 at mile marker 28.1 in Towamencin Township. No one was injured.
Police said she was driving a 2019 Nissan Rogue in the center lane of traffic attempted to move to the left lane and struck a 2013 Volvo driven by Travis M. Coats, 22, of Tallahassee, Florida.
Police said the Volvo sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene. The Rogue had functional damages but was able to be driven from the scene.
Mirella Rodriguez, 31, of Allentown, is facing drug possession charges after she was stopped while speeding at 6:34 p.m. Aug. 2 in the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
State police at the Pocono barracks said she was stopped while driving a 2016 Mazda that they clocked at 98 m.p.h. in a 70 m.p.h. zone at 683 Interstate 476 southbound in Washington Township and was found to be in possession of marijuana.
Kevin D. Ziegenfuss, 54, of Andreas, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 4:30 p.m. July 31 on the ramp of Interstate 476 (PA Turnpike) inn Plymouth Township, Montgomery County.
State police at the King of Prussia barracks said he was driving a 2008 Toyota Yaris when he was exiting the turnpike and the vehicle struck the attenuator where the ramp splits for I476 north and south. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene. Police said the attenuator had minor damages.
Ziegenfuss was uninjured.
