Work on several Walker Township roads is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 11.
The project includes approximately 1.7 miles on Catawissa Road, 1 mile on Mountain Road, and 2.2 miles on Valley Road.
Two alternate projects to be done will be another section of Valley Road and Shady Lane.
AMS of Center Valley was awarded the contract at $1.98/square yard, for a total of $146,474.
Supervisors will discuss the line painting that will be done after the work is done at their September meeting.
Hazard mitigation plan
The supervisors voted to participate in the Schuylkill County Hazard Mitigation Plan update project.
To participate, Walker (and the other municipalities) signed a letter of intent to participate, and appointed Walker Roadmaster Chad Felty as the primary point of contact, and township Secretary and Assistant Zoning Officer Ann Ostergaard as the alternate/secondary point of contact.
The point of contact person represents Walker Township at planning partnership meetings and helps identify areas of need in the township.
“In case of an emergency, they want a representative from each of the townships and boroughs in Schuylkill County to be a part of that plan,” said Supervisor Craig Wagner.
In case of a disaster in the county, only participating members of the plan would be able to receive federal funding should it be needed.
