Letter to the Editor: Wasteful spending in Lansford

When one goes for a walk down by the stadium on Parkway and Bertsch streets one has to walk on the streets for a lack of a sidewalk. It is an accident waiting to happen. I approached council president at a committee meeting when he got on council about this issue. Nothing was done. Invite the school board down there I’m sure the board members don’t want to be liable for an accident. Then cite them.

On another matter Edgemont has always been a private development. Council president and the chair of public safety stated that back in the ’60s the roads were made public. Complaints were filed with PennDOT liquid fuels since liquid fuels moneys were used up there at Edgemont. The borough through mismanagement has to pay back over $10,000 to liquid fuels for using moneys on private property.

Now look at the train station. A promise was made no money from general fund for the purchase of this building. But two checks have been written for this building. Where is all the money going to come from to restore this building? Unlike what the chair of public safety stated at a meeting this is not a win, win for the borough.

Now Lansford has money due to commissioners selling the rail line and COVID money. But COVID money if spent wrong will have to be paid back. And they spent thousands of dollars to hire a law firm to possibly sue the county over the sale.

What have they done about the water authority? Nothing.

Our sewer rates went up and the board members at the sewer authority gave themselves a hefty raise. Was this looked at no.

Safety is not a concern in Lansford and neither is wasteful spending.
