Carbon Co. Fair opens Monday
It mixes agriculture with some pure good old-fashioned fun.
The 23rd annual Carbon County Fair runs Monday through Saturday along Little Gap Road in Palmerton.
It will be open from 4-10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2-10 p.m. Saturday.
The price of admission is $7 for those 6 years and older.
Fair President Malinda Fox said the theme of this year’s fair is Growing the Future.
“We have a lot of new vendors,” Fox said. “We also have some new entertainment in the Main Arena.”
Among the new vendors are Apple Dumplings by Heather, Liberty Oil & Propane, Palmerton Pharmacy, Kalahari Resorts, and Hartman Jerk Center, and Holy Ghost Distillery.
New to the fair is Micro Wrestling. The touring show features people under 4 feet, 7 inches who provide entertainment and comedy as well as wrestling.
Fox added that this will be the last year the event will be staged at its current location of 3285 Little Gap Road.
“We’re supposed to have beautiful weather, so we’re hoping for a great turnout,” she said. “We have new property we’ve been working on to develop and are applying for proper permits; next year we will be at 3005 Little Gap Road.”
Fox described what she believes makes the fair the popular attraction that it is.
“We highlight our agricultural aspect, and what they do for our area,” she said. “It’s just a very wholesome, family-friendly fair.”
4-Hers spend the entire year raising animals and doing projects to be judged in competition.
Area growers and crafters will also bring their best work for judging, including baked goods, flowers, needlecraft, wine, and arts and crafts.
There’s plenty to do.
This year the Amazing Anastasinis will return, with shows daily. Some aerial acts have been added.
Giovanni Anastasini said he’s excited to be back with a new show. “In our show we try to provide little of everything for the young and old,” he said. “Our goal is to have audience leave with a fun experience that they won’t forget.”
Members of the Pennsylvania Professional Lumberjack Association will return Tuesday night for three rounds of competition. Lumberjacks are coming to Carbon from as far away as Seattle.
Popular demolition derbies and junk car races are back, as well as local favorites like the Steel Creek, the Cramer Brothers and Dean Hahn and the Hawks.
