Joseph Eichhorn Jr. was a former resident of East Mauch Chunk until 1960 before moving to the Lansdale area where he graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School in 1967.
Eichhorn Jr. then went on to Temple University, where he majored in communications.
Eichhorn Jr. made a name for himself in sports broadcasting where he worked at multiple horse racing tracks, including Racetrack Announcer at Liberty Park, Freestate Raceway and Atlantic City Race Track.
He was also a play-by-play announcer for the University of Pennsylvania football team, radio play-by-play announcer for the Villanova football team and also the Villanova women’s basketball team, and public address announcer for both the Villanova men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The Jim Thorpe Hall of Fame Class of 2023 awards banquet will be held on Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Jim Thorpe High School, and is open to the public.
