Blockers to hold car show in honor of 75th anniversary

A Lehighton business going strong after 75 years plans to celebrate the milestone the best way it knows how - with cars.

In honor of its 75th anniversary, Blockers Collision Center will have a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event will be hosted by the Jukebox Cruisers.

“We’re having a car show, and we’d like the local community to come,” said Ken Rohlfing, shop manager. “We’re trying to give back to the community.”

Rohlfing said the proceeds will go to the Lehighton Lions Club and Baer Memorial Swimming Pool.

Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 cars, along with Top 3 People Choice Awards.

There will also be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, a DJ, and food available.

A $10 donation per car will be collected to enter a car.

Tarone Blocker, shop owner, said that his late father, Elwood Blocker, started the business in 1948, and said his dad had two brothers who worked with him.

Blocker said that the family business is going into its fourth generation.

“The longevity is the thing I’m most proud of,” Blocker said. “We love what we do.”

As a token of its appreciation, Blockers has given out a $25 gift certificate each week to local businesses in Carbon County for the past year.

Joe Curran, a member of the Jukebox Cruisers, said the organization has over 140 members.

“We host a lot of shows throughout the year,” Curran said. “All the income goes to local charities.”
