July 29, 1948 - Ronnie Mrozinski dominates on the mound to lead Mauch Chunk’s legion team to a 2-1 victory over Wilson Boro in the opening game of their best-of-three District 30 championship series. Mrozinski tosses a two-hitter and strikes out 20 batters in his nine innings of work. The winners open the scoring in the second inning when Artie Stermer blasts a solo homer. Later in the second, Byron “Reds” Halpin singles and scores on a double off the bat of “Krock” Kroculik. Mauch Chunk collects 10 hits in the contest, including two each from Kroculik, Fritzie Watto and John “Doley” Smith.
