Man in custody after Weatherly standoff

A man is custody after a standoff in Weatherly on Saturday.

Police responded to a home near 1st and East Main streets in the borough for reports of a man with a gun who threatened his girlfriend.

The Weatherly Police Department said they responded to a call for service in regards to a welfare concern. Once on scene, police said the officers were met with hostility and were requested to leave.

This place of residence quickly became a hostage situation.

All Weatherly Police personnel were recalled and put back into service and the Pennsylvania State Police provided additional support.

The hostage escaped and this situation evolved into a gunman barricaded inside of the residence.

After a lengthy standoff with law enforcement the subject surrendered without further incident.

“The Weatherly Police Department is committed to the safety of all of our residents and guests. We are proud of our officers as this incident was resolved without injury. We would like to thank The Pennsylvania State Police for their cooperation and assistance,” the police department said in a statement Saturday.
