Lansford to discuss pool options, funding Aug. 1

Lansford Borough Council will review options to replace the borough pool during its regular committee meetings on Aug. 1 at 4 p.m.

Christine Dettore of the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will attend and talk to council about funding sources and other options to replace the pool.

Council authorized a new feasibility study on the pool in March, saying the borough was unable to update the existing, six-year-old study as the description of the pool wasn’t accurate. The new study was expected to cost $26,000.

The pool remained dormant again this season, while council looked at options. The pool, which dates to 1944, closed eight years ago because of leaks.

The Friends of the Lansford Pool has been raising money, the estimate to make repairs was $875,000.

The pool was last renovated in 1985.

The public is encouraged to attend the committee meeting, Council President Bruce Markovich said.
